Bat for Lashes -- Fur and Gold [Indie/alternative]

Year: 2006
Genre: indie / alternative
Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/batforlashes
Format: mp3
Bitrate: V0 [~212]
Filesize: 69 MB

Fur & Gold is the stunning debut album from Bat For Lashes, aka former nursery school teacher Natasha Khan. Inspired by tales of Joan of Arc and a particularly vivid dream, Natasha set about crafting an album of exquisite beauty - one that haunts and captivates in equal measure. Her music is cinematic in scope, no doubt inspired by her degree in film and music, and in live form includes thunderous marching bands, desert guitar, ballet school piano, harpsichord, sub-bass snarls, hand-claps and naive beats. Underpinning many of the tracks is a sombre piano - heartbreakingly beautiful but tellingly effective. While Natasha’s mournful vocals emerge as a cross between the ethereal quality of Bjork and the fragile beauty of Imogen Heap. Thematically, it embraces Natasha’s vivid imagination and tells of natural forces and animal kingdoms, rugged English cliff tops and engulfing oceans.

The Handsome Family -- Honey Moon [Folk/Rock]

2009 release, their eighth studio album overall. Honey Moon takes place under bowed branches and deep within winding corn mazes. The release celebrates the duo's 20th year of marriage with a series of love songs that sharply contrast the dark themes of their previous seven albums. Full of an awed sense of emotion in the face of nature's mysteries, Brett Sparks (music) and Rennie Sparks (lyrics) branch from their usual canon of the dark and mysterious on Honey Moon, to establish a theme rooted in the tradition of 19th century romanticism. For the first time there is no body count. It is an album of transcendence, of touching the divine, if only for a moment, through our love of someone else, even if he is a katydid.

Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine -- Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine [Indie/Pop/Eletronica]

Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine is the alter ego of Robert Schneider from The Apples in Stereo doing a raucously infectious all ages performance (kid friendly!). Robbert Bobbert, a genius inventor of musical mayhem, performs songs from his Beach Boys inspired indie rock songbook, whilst entertaining the masses. If the number of B's in a name represented fun, Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine have cornered the market. Illustrations by Todd Webb / Seamonster.[好可爱的砖砖,送给小盆友滴...]

Soap And Skin -- Lovetune For Vacuum

'Lovetune for Vacuum' is an unwavering line of drama, inner conflict and melancholy - its impact lies in its paradoxicality: remarkably mature on the one hand, yet feeding on unbridled youthful exuberance on the other. Few musical discoveries in recent years have been as staggering as that of Soap&Skin aka Anja Plaschg. The sheer force this eighteen year old artist injects into her compositions almost beggars belief, her songs consuming every last drop of her with no regard for grace or beauty. Then again, the 13 deeply melancholic compositions of piano, sometimes crackling electronica and inimitable vocals, which oscillate between a whisper and a scream on this debut, are so drenched in beauty and gracefulness, one could crumble on hearing them.

Modern Skirts -- All Of Us In Our Night [Indie/Pop]

Ordinary music tends to get classified by genre. Some of this stuff is quite exciting, really. It does what you expect it to, but it follows the formula well enough that its derivative nature doesnt matter. We call it indie, or pop, or modern rock, and we recommend it to listeners who enjoy those styles. But every now and then, a band reminds us that when the songs are good enough, and innovative enough, genre is the last thing that matters. You dont need to be a music major to recognize that the twelve tracks on Modern Skirts sophomore album, All Of Us In Our Night, are unusually constructed. They have unexpected twists and turns, chords that startle with their novelty, and melodies that feel refreshingly original. And you dont need to be an aficionado to get excited by such infectious choruses theyll get stuck in the heads of neophyte listeners and super-hipsters alike. So call it pop, call it rock, call it indie, call it classic if you must. Better yet, call it what it is- a collection of fantastic, irresistible, entirely unclassifiable songs.

Henry Priestman -- The Chronicles Of Modern Life[Folk-Rock]

Don't You Love Me No More? is the lead track and is a song that anyone whose ever slaved their hearts out for the corporate machine, only to be given a big fat kick in the teeth, will find is their new anthem. Elsewhere you'll hear a beautifully ragged Nashville-influenced backing to more biting wit and wisdom on all manner of subjects close to our hearts like Grey's the New Blonde, Old and - tackling the changing face of `the biz' - Did I Fight in The Punk Wars For This? and The Sacred Scrolls of Pop. But is this music for grumpy old men? "No!" Henry disagrees, "I'm just trying to write scruffy pop songs of pith, wit and poignancy...with the emphasis on scruffy," (referring to the fact that he played almost everything on the album himself).
In September 2007 meets song-writer Tom Gilbert....armed with inspiration from the Rough Trade "Songwriter" series, & a boxset of The Kinks first 10 albums, and abiding by the "Nashville rules" of 3 hour writing sessions for each song, the duo come up with "Old" and "Did I Fight in the Punk Wars for This?" and Henry is bullied by Tom into singing for the first time since 1981, whence they realise they have (much more by accident than by design) created something a bit special....more writing sessions follow ...the songs just flow out...11 songs in 5 sessions, .including " Grey's the New Blonde", "The Sacred Scrolls of Pop" and "r.e.d.u.n.d.a.n.t (Don't you love me no more)"....
Produced, recorded and performed almost entirely by Henry in his home studio (with odd guest performances from friends who can really play, sent over the `net) the album has very much been done with a D.I.Y ethic (1977?), songs being thrown down with more attention to feel & honesty than technical ability & perfection.

::TRACKLIST::

1. Don't You Love Me No More?
2. Old
3. What You Doin' With Me?
4. It's Called A Heart
5. Grey's The New Blonde
